Toby Keith to Receive Major Honor in Home State Alongside Kenny Rogers and Ed Harris

4 February 20263 Mins Read

Toby Keith’s strong influence continues to be felt around the country long after his untimely death. The late country music icon has received numerous posthumous honors and is now set to receive another, this time, in his home state of Oklahoma.

Keith, along with his fellow late Country Music Hall of Famer Kenny Rogers and acclaimed actor Ed Harris, is among the 2026 inductees at the 65th annual Western Heritage Awards, hosted by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The upcoming ceremony, set to take place this Spring in Oklahoma City, will include a presentation of special honors, where the “Red Solo Cup” singer/songwriter will be given the Special Directors’ Award.

Keith’s Daughter Shared a Statement

Krystal Keith, the legendary country artist’s daughter, spoke on the family’s behalf, sharing gratitude following the announcement.

“This honor reflects the life my dad lived and the values he stood for,” she said in a statement, according to Wide Open Country. “We’re grateful to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum for recognizing his place in history and how his career served and celebrated the heritage of the country and the Western way of life.”

Museum president and CEO Pat Fitzgerald echoed that sentiment, praising the inductees’ enduring impact.

“We are thrilled to announce the exceptional inductees and award winners for this year’s Western Heritage Awards,” Fitzgerald said. “Each has helped carry forward the stories, values, and traditions of the American West in meaningful and enduring ways. Their work — whether on screen, in song, in leadership, or through lifelong service — ensures that the spirit of the West continues to inspire future generations.”

Keith, Rogers, and Harris’s induction finds them joining a celebrated list of both country music and film icons. Those who have been inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Fame in years past include George Strait, Bob Wills, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, as well as Burt Reynolds, Sam Elliot, and Kurt Russell.

Toby Keith Passed Away in 2024

A native of Clinton, Oklahoma, Keith passed away on Feb. 5, 2024, following a lengthy and heroic battle with stomach cancer. He was 62. His latest honor follows a series of posthumous awards and accolades, including 2024’s Country Music Hall of Fame induction.

In addition to their inductions, Keith, Rogers, and Harris will each receive a Wrangler Award, a bronze sculpture of a cowboy on horseback created by late Oklahoma artist Harold T. Holden. The 65th annual Western Heritage Awards will be held April 11, 2026, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
