Is Toronto losing its touch? That’s the impression outsiders might get, at least, based on Toronto’s recent performance on national and global rankings. The city has been dethroned yet again by a smaller Ontario city — and this time, it’s about partying.
Uber just released its 2026 Nightlife Index, and the report crowned Canada’s top partying cities. It was London, Ont., with its population of around 420,000 (compared to Toronto’s almost 3 million), that took the top spot on the list! And it gets worse: Toronto just barely scraped by in the top five, being surpassed by Winnipeg, Man., Lethbridge, Alta. and even Kitchener-Waterloo with yet another Ontario betrayal.
And this marks just one of a few recent rankings to snub Toronto for some other, smaller city in Ontario. It was St. Catherines that recently received the title of one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods — Toronto was left off the list entirely. And Niagara-on-the-Lake was named one of the world’s top travel destinations for 2027.
To be fair, London and Kitchener-Waterloo are both home to universities and therefore high student populations, making this particular party ranking a little more understandable. But one would think King Street alone could rival entire Ontario cities on a given night in Toronto!
Toronto recently made the top spot on this list, back in 2024, but every other year, the honour has gone to London.
The index was calculated using aggregated, anonymized insights from Uber and Uber Eats, analyzing the average number of late night trips (ranging from 10 p.m.–2 a.m.) taken by riders in each city every month.
The report also saw that, while Halloween is not Canada’s biggest party night (that’s New Year’s Eve), it’s the one that keeps people out the latest, unsurprisingly.
And the Canadian hangover cure? According to the report’s ranking of morning-after food orders, it’s hot coffee, hash browns, breakfast wraps, bagels and iced coffee. So basically, a full Timmies order.
