You can become a detective for the night at this 1920s-inspired Calgary speakeasy

23 July 20263 Mins Read

Prohibition Lounge is bringing the drama of the Roaring Twenties to Calgary with Detective Date Night, an interactive murder mystery. Throughout the evening, guests will sip cocktails, uncover clues, and try to solve the case before the suspect gets away.

Set inside the 1920s-inspired speakeasy, the night will have you stepping into a world of secretive characters and unexpected twists that will put your detective skills to the test.

Now, let’s take a look at what you can expect when you step into this mysterious night.

What to expect at Detective Date Night

Located on 17th Avenue, Prohibition Lounge transports guests back to the Prohibition era with vintage decor, dim lighting, live jazz, and, we can’t forget about its signature hidden entrance. To enter the space, you have to find the vintage photo booth that opens up into the speakeasy.

Of course, no speakeasy experience would be complete without a good cocktail. The lounge is known for its 1920s-style cocktails that are just as memorable as the setting. One standout is the “Tweety Bird” cocktail, which comes served inside an illuminated birdcage and is topped with dried lemon and star anise.

Now that you’ve got a feel for the space, it’s time to get to what the night itself has in store.

According to Prohibition Lounge, during the Detective Date Night, your group will be handed a case file and tasked with solving the mystery before the time runs out. Inside the file, you’ll find clues, evidence, and details that will help you piece together what happened. The case will unfold inside the fictional Millionaire Manor, where you’ll have to pay close attention to every detail and work as a team to uncover the truth.

Timing and details

Detective Date Night takes place every Wednesday night, with reservations available anytime after 5 p.m. You can book a table directly through Prohibition Lounge’s website or through OpenTable. Tickets are $10 per person, so you can enjoy an evening of cocktails and crime-solving without breaking the bank.

The experience is available for groups of two or more, making it a great option for a date night, double date, or a night out with friends.

So, do you think you have what it takes to solve a murder? Now’s your chance to step into the Roaring Twenties, sip a cocktail, and see if you can uncover the truth before the mystery gets away from you.

When: Every Wednesday night
Time: 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Where: 720 17th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: $10 per person
