This year’s festival will feature hundreds of films and events, with screenings running throughout the day and into the evening.

What is the Calgary International Film Festival?
According to organizers, the Calgary International Film Festival is Alberta’s largest film festival, bringing filmmakers and audiences together for an annual celebration of cinema from Calgary and around the world.
The first CIFF took place in 2000 and lasted six days, attracting around 8,000 people. The festival has since grown to around 30,000 attendees and expanded to 11 days.
How many movies are showing at CIFF?
The 2026 festival lineup includes more than 200 films and features. This includes everything from major international premieres and Canadian documentaries to short films, horror films, and more.
And if that number feels a little overwhelming, CIFF divides its programming into sections to make it easier to find something you will actually want to watch.

Is CIFF for all ages?
CIFF has films for a wide range of audiences, but the age suitability varies from movie to movie. Some screenings are family-friendly, while others are more geared towards mature audiences, so it’s worth checking the individual film listing before booking your tickets.

How much are tickets?
Single CIFF tickets are $19, plus box office fees, and you can buy them for individual screenings throughout the festival.
If you’re planning to catch more than one movie, ticket bundles let you save a bit more than buying individual tickets. You can grab a 5-ticket bundle for $85, an 8-ticket bundle for $128, or a 16-ticket bundle for $240.
There’s also an All-Access Pass for $475, which gives you access to the festival’s most popular films.
How do I buy tickets?
You can buy tickets through the CIFF website or in person at the venue box office. It’s a good idea to buy tickets ahead of time, as they can sell out quickly.
Are the seats reserved?
CIFF uses first-come, first-served seating, so buying a ticket doesn’t guarantee a specific seat. According to CIFF, doors open 30 minutes before showtime at Cineplex Chinook, The GRAND, and Contemporary Calgary, but 45 minutes before at Globe Cinema and Plaza Theatre. Organizers recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early to guarantee entry.
Are there any free events at CIFF?
The festival is hosting a free, all-ages outdoor event at Eau Claire Plaza on Saturday, Sept. 26, with movies, music, and family activities set up throughout the space. The lineup includes Space Jam at 3 p.m., Best in Show at 6 p.m., and Scream at 9 p.m.
