Meliá Hotels International has invested €50 million to reposition Paradisus Cancún in Mexico.
The investment covers a refurbishment of Paradisus Cancún intended to upgrade facilities and operations, increase profitability and raise the asset’s value over time. The project is part of the company’s hotel-asset repositioning strategy.
The renovation is intended to strengthen Paradisus Cancún’s position in Mexico and support the resort’s financial performance. Meliá is selectively investing in strategic assets and working with hotel owners and co-investment partners on repositioning projects.
Meliá has transformed more than 90 hotels in recent years, with close to €1 billion invested alongside partners and co-investors. The investments have been directed toward hotel upgrades and asset-value enhancements.
The company cited Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in Menorca, Paradisus resorts in the Canary Islands and ZEL Mallorca among projects included in its repositioning activity. ZEL Mallorca’s revenue increased fivefold in its first season after the repositioning.
At Paradisus Cancún, the refurbishment is also intended to expand the resort’s contribution to Quintana Roo through partnerships with local suppliers, employee professional-development opportunities and the creation of more than 650 indirect jobs. The project also includes experiences intended to connect guests with the region’s culture, natural heritage and traditions.
The resort originally opened in 1986.
