You can explore four haunted houses and a Halloween night market near Calgary

26 October 20263 Mins Read

A campground in Okotoks is getting a spooky Halloween makeover, complete with haunted houses, escape rooms, and a night market. Nightmare in the Campground is back this year, with three new escape rooms and four haunted houses to explore. Vendors will also be on-site, serving food and selling homemade treats and crafts, plus a family-friendly daytime event for those who want to avoid the jump scares.

If you’re considering checking out Nightmare in the Campground, here’s what to expect, including the attractions, dates, and ticket prices.

What to expect at Nightmare in the Campground

What is Nightmare in the Campground?

According to organizers, Nightmare in the Campground is an annual Halloween event held at the Lions Campground in Okotoks, featuring four haunted houses, three escape rooms, and a night market.

Each haunted house has its own theme, while the escape rooms give visitors 15 minutes to solve puzzles inspired by Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, and John Wayne Gacy.

Beyond the haunted houses and escape rooms, a vendor market and a food tent serving snacks and meals will also be available throughout the event.

Nightmare in the Campground is run by Nightmare Creations Special Events, a family-run team with years of experience building haunted houses and creating Halloween experiences. What started as a small driveway haunt in 2018 grew, and in 2024 the team partnered with the Okotoks Lions Campground, where it has continued to grow.

Is the event suitable for kids?

Bringing younger kids along? Nightmare in the Campground also offers daytime sessions for children aged 10 and under, with the scares removed from the experience. Kids can walk through the haunted houses, watch family-friendly movies, play games, and pick up treat bags.

If you’re planning to attend in the evening, keep in mind the regular attractions are much scarier, so parental discretion is advised.

When is Nightmare in the Campground?

If you’re planning to check out the event this week, it’s open from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Halloween, a session will be hosted from noon to 4 p.m., along with an evening session from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

How much are tickets?

Ticket prices depend on which attractions you want to experience. General admission without access to the escape rooms costs $25 per person, while tickets that include one escape room cost $30. Admission to all three escape rooms costs $35.

With Halloween just days away, Nightmare in the Campground is a great way to spend the night getting spooked without travelling far from Calgary.

When: Tuesday, Oct. 27 to Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026
Time:  Tuesday and Wednesday: 7:30 to 10 p.m., Thursday and Friday: 7:30 to 11 p.m., Saturday: noon to 4 p.m. and 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Where: Okotoks Lions Campground — 99 Woodhaven Dr., Okotoks, Alta.
Cost: General Admission: $25, General Admission plus one escape room: $30, General Admission and access to all escape rooms: $35
