This Alberta town is home to Canada’s largest year-round Christmas store

3 November 20263 Mins Read

Shopping in Banff often means finding souvenirs to remember your trip to the Rockies, but one store focuses on bringing Christmas home. The Spirit of Christmas is Canada’s largest year-round Christmas store, and it has been bringing holiday cheer to the mountain town for 40 years.

Inside, you’ll find two floors filled with ornaments, decorations, collectible Christmas village displays, and so much more.

Now let’s take a further look at what’s waiting for you inside the shop.

What to expect at The Spirit of Christmas

What is The Spirit of Christmas?

With 5,000 square feet dedicated to the holidays, The Spirit of Christmas is Canada’s largest year-round Christmas store. According to The Spirit of Christmas, the store first opened in 1986 and gives tourists a place to get into the holiday spirit no matter the month they’re exploring the Rockies.

What can I find at the store?

The store has just about everything you could want for the holidays, from Christmas tree decorations and ornaments to figurines and collectibles. The shelves are filled with pieces from brands like Department 56 and Jim Shore, alongside collections inspired by the Canadian Rockies.

According to The Spirit of Christmas, the store personalizes more than 10,000 ornaments each year, so if you’re visiting Banff for a special occasion or want to pick up a gift, you can have your ornament customized to remember it.

Beyond the Christmas decorations, the store also carries Halloween and Easter decorations, so even if you’re not shopping for the tree, you might still find something worth bringing home.

Where is the Spirit of Christmas?

The Spirit of Christmas is located in Banff, Alta., right on the town’s main shopping street. The store is open seven days a week, with hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday.

With the holiday season inching closer, now’s the perfect time to stop by The Spirit of Christmas and get a head start on your gift shopping.

And if you can’t make it this Christmas, don’t worry — the store is open year-round, so there’s always time to stop by!

When: Open seven days a week
Time: Monday to Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: 133 Banff Ave., Banff, Alta.
Cost: Free to visit
