A free salsa festival is coming to this historic Vancouver park this August

31 July 20263 Mins Read

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to salsa but feel a little intimidated by an indoor class environment, now is your chance to get on your feet and learn in the great outdoors.

Get ready for eight hours of dancing under the sun at the second annual Vancouver Outdoor Salsa Festival, organized by Rueda De La Vida Dance Society. Set against the picturesque, waterfront backdrop of Hastings Mill Park, you’re sure to find your rhythm here—and meet some incredible people in the process.

The open-air celebration will have salsa workshops for all skill levels, so you don’t have to worry about searching for the right dance partner right out of the gate. Instructors will be there to guide your steps, so that you can focus on improving and feeling confident before pairing off.

Whether you’ve danced for years or are just starting out, this is a great reason to get your friends together. It’ll be a day rooted in community, culture, and connection, with all ages welcome to join in on the fun.

In addition to non-stop music and dancing, you’ll be able to enjoy live bands, DJs, and browse local vendors and food trucks.

The 2026 Vancouver Outdoor Salsa Fest will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, and is completely free to enjoy.

Below is the official music lineup at the festival:

  • DJ Ashuka
  • Rumba 7
  • Dos Claves
  • Nico Rana
  • UBC Rueda
  • Los Aseres
  • Los Timberos
  • RDV

A historic park

For those who don’t know, Hastings Mill Park is not just a scenic gem of the Vancouver parks system. It happens to be home to the city’s oldest surviving building: Old Hastings Mill Store Museum. Dating back to 1865, the museum started out as a pioneer store on the south shore of Burrard Inlet, selling lumber, tobacco, and other essentials back in the day.

In 1930, the Old Hastings Mill Store and Post Office was hoisted onto a small barge and transported to its new permanent home at Hastings Mill Park.

Museum-goers today can watch it all unfold on a small TV screen at the museum, in case you’re curious how a building of this size and age was physically moved across English Bay. It’s definitely a fun side quest to your day of dancing!

More outdoor dancing this summer

Want to polish up your skills ahead of the festival? Rueda De La Vida hosts beginner-friendly outdoor dancing every Friday at Sun Hop Park through Aug. 28.

Note that if you’re dropping in to one of their official classes at Anomaly Studios, class packages are available for intermediate dancers and above. Three classes are priced at $35, $60 for six, or $90 for 10.

Beginners always dance for free!

Mark your calendars and get ready for one of the city’s most notable new festivals.

When: Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026
Time: Noon to 8 p.m.
Where: Hastings Mill Park – 1575 Alma St.
