A low-cost airline with nonstop flights to Tokyo is coming to Toronto next year

8 October 20263 Mins Read

Those of us in Toronto dreaming of wandering through Tokyo’s neon-lit streets, seeing Japan’s famous cherry blossoms, or eating our way through Osaka will soon have a new way of getting there without breaking the bank on airfare.

Pearson Airport announced this week that Japanese low-cost airline ZIPAIR is coming to Toronto in 2027, bringing year-round nonstop flights between Toronto and Narita International Airport, situated roughly 60 kilometres east of Tokyo, three times a week.

The new route will be the airline’s second Canadian destination following Vancouver, where the carrier launched service to Tokyo in 2024.

Another way to Tokyo is on the horizon 🇯🇵✈️

ZIPAIR is coming to Pearson in 2027, with year-round nonstop service to Tokyo Narita three times a week. Toronto will be ZIPAIR’s second Canadian destination after Vancouver.

Cherry blossom season, late nights in Shinjuku, the perfect bowl of ramen: whatever’s on your list, it’s about to get a little easier to reach.

Stay tuned to find out when ticket sales launch.

— Toronto Pearson (@TorontoPearson) October 6, 2026

ZIPAIR was founded in 2018 and began operations soon after in 2022. Wholly owned by Japan Airlines, the carrier currently operates Boeing 787-8 aircraft and flies to destinations across Asia and North America, including Seoul, Bangkok, Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, and Orlando.

Unlike traditional full-service airlines, the low-cost carrier keeps its base fares wallet-friendly by charging separately for optional extras like checked baggage and in-flight meals (two pieces of carry-on baggage totalling up to 7 kg are included in the fare).

ZIPAIR offers complimentary internet access, and you’ll be able to use your own devices in-flight to watch free entertainment and purchase snacks, drinks, alcoholic beverages, and duty-free products.

Currently, Air Canada is the only airline that offers a nonstop service from Toronto to Tokyo, with fares varying significantly depending on the season, with the period between late March and early April being the most expensive thanks to it being prime sakura season.

For comparison, round-trip fares from Vancouver to Tokyo for March 1 to 8 are currently around $1,052 with ZIPAIR and approximately $1,661 with Air Canada for the same dates.

The exact date for the airline’s ticket sales hasn’t been revealed yet, but Pearson Airport noted that travellers should “stay tuned” for more details.
