AMTC: GENERAL AUDITION NOTICE

Call for Non-Equity Musical Theatre Performers

Alberta Musical Theatre Company (AMTC) seeks non-equity musical theatre actors for the 2026-2027 Alberta School Tour of “Rumpelstiltskin” as well as additional roles in our 2026-2027 season.

RUMPELSTILTSKIN by Farren Timoteo and Jeff Unger
directed by Ellen Chorley
Rehearsals: August 25-September 11, 2026
Public Performances: September 11- 19, 2026
Tour Performances: September 21- June 18, 2027

Additional roles include acting in workshops of new musical theatre scripts throughout the season.
All performance roles are paid, non-equity positions.

Performing in the Rumpelstiltskin tour is a full-time role which requires actors to be out of town up to three weeks per month for the nine-month contract.

AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held on Sunday, June 21, Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23 at the Playhouse (10033 80 Avenue, Edmonton Alberta).

HOW TO SUBMIT
For the Rumpelstiltskin tour, actors must be:
• Non-equity
• Over the age of 18 years old
• Legally able to perform in elementary schools (Actor will have to get a Vulnerable Sector Police Check to perform on tour. Police check is not required to audition, but the actor will need to provide one once cast, before rehearsals begin.)

To submit for an audition please send an email to Artistic Director, Ellen Chorley at ellen@albertamusicaltheatre.ca with the subject line: AMTC GENERAL AUDITION- [Your Full Name] and include:
1. A cover letter expressing
– Your interest in AMTC
– A brief bit of information about your experience and training in theatre
– Any experience you have working in theatre for young audiences or teaching young people
– If you play an instrument and your level of performance (beginner, intermediate, advanced, professional)
– The best dates/time for your audition booking (example: Monday or Tuesday, after 5:00 pm)
2. A current theatre resumé or CV
3. A current headshot or photograph of you

If Artistic Director, Ellen Chorley, saw you perform at Theatre Alberta’s Emerge Edmonton 2026, you are still welcome to submit for an AMTC general audition.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Please prepare a musical theatre song and a comedic monologue.

Though AMTC produces theatre for young audiences, it is not necessary to perform a song or monologue from a TYA play.

Please bring sheet music in the correct key for your song. An accompanist will be provided for your audition.
If you play an instrument, please bring it and perform a very short song.

Actors may be asked to read from the script after their audition or attend an additional callback.

This season, AMTC will perform for more than 50,000 students across Alberta.
We are devoted to proudly representing the enormous diversity of our magnificent audiences in the creation of our work.
We strongly encourage and enthusiastically welcome artists of all cultures and ethnicities, LGBTQIA2S+ artists, and artists with disabilities to express interest in our auditions.

Our hope is to let our work come to beautiful life by embracing your unique personality, experience, and body. So please feel comfortable in applying to audition, and please feel free to be exactly who you are!

We cannot wait to meet you!
