Beloved Rock Band, Disbanded for 19 Years, Announces Return to Stage

4 August 20263 Mins Read

Now It’s Overhead, the beloved indie rock band behind acclaimed albums like Dark Light Daybreak and Fall Back Open, is making its long-awaited return to the stage.

After 19 years away from the spotlight, the Andy LeMaster-led band is delivering back-to-back surprises for fans.

In an Instagram update, record label Saddle Creek teased fans with an exciting announcement regarding the band’s activities this year.

The indie rock band from Athens, Georgia, will be performing in their hometown at the iconic 40 Watt Club.

Scheduled for Oct. 10, the rare concert will mark the band’s first performance in nearly 20 years, following its last concert in 2007.

Apart from the highly anticipated event, the band also treated fans to a special surprise by announcing the upcoming release of the first-ever vinyl pressing of its three studio albums.

Their albums, Now It’s Overhead (2001), Fall Back Open (2004) and Dark Light Daybreak (2006), will be available as part of a limited-edition collection arriving Sept. 15.

“Newly remastered by Andy LeMaster (Now It’s Overhead) and arriving as a limited edition run of 500 pressed on Ecomix vinyl,” the statement reads.

From its onstage comeback to its remastered albums, the band also announced the release of its first new songs in 20 years through the soon-to-be-released EP, In The Beginning.

Showcasing five tracks, Now It’s Overhead gave fans a preview of the EP with “eleven-seven-thirty-five,” released on Aug. 3.

Moreover, frontman Andy LeMaster also spoke about the interesting story behind the track.

“‘eleven-seven-thirty-five’ was written and recorded in the same time period as the songs that became the first now it’s overhead album. It was an earlier song among that bunch. It almost made the record and I’m nearly certain we played it live at the first few now it’s overhead shows. I rediscovered it recently while transferring some old reels of tape and I had forgotten how fully formed it is as a song and a recording,” he shared.

In the comments section, fans expressed their excitement to hear the band’s new material and celebrate its long-awaited return.

“This a gift,” one wrote.

“Finally!” a follower said.

The same sentiment was shared by another commenter who remarked, “some new Now It’s Overhead is coming!”

An excited fan also commented, “Glad to hear a studio of the wxdu session track I’ve had in the archive.”

Formed in the late 1990s, Now It’s Overhead released three albums before entering a long hiatus, with its final record, Dark Light Daybreak, released in 2006.
