Among the many big names alongside Tom Cruise in his latest movie Digger is John Goodman. Watch him steal scenes as a bumbling fictitious U.S. president if you haven’t.
The beloved acting veteran, 74, has since made headlines amid his dramatic 200-pound weight loss, which he has addressed in occasional interviews. And now, Goodman’s name has popped up once again thanks an exciting Netflix casting decision.
Variety reports that the Roseanne alum has officially joined The Beast in Me for season 2, which was announced in September with lead Claire Danes returning.
With such a talented performer as Goodman on board, one has to wonder if his character will be villainous in nature, a la Matthew Rhys in his Emmy-winning season 1 turn. At the very least, Variety was able to confirm on Wednesday, October 28 that Goodman will portray Jack, the father of Aggie Wiggs (Danes).
As fans might recall, The Beast in Me was originally announced as a limited series back in 2024, and campaigned in such a way this past Emmys season. In addition to Rhys’ surprise win, the show also won Emmy gold for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score).
Movie buffs may know Goodman best from his variety of standout roles over the decades, from Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski to the Oscar-winning Argo with Ben Affleck. But on the small screen, Goodman has been Emmy-nominated 11 times, seven of which stemming from Roseanne. He recently reprised his role as Dan Conner for the revival of “Roseanne,” which was subsequently renamed “The Conners” and aired for seven more seasons.
John Goodman Reveals the Drawback of His 200 Pound Weight Loss
Earlier this month, Goodman opened up about an operation he had done on his stomach to help maintain a healthier body weight — more specifically, a small health concern caused by losing the layers of fat.
“I also turned anemic and lost a layer of fat under my skin, and I’m cold all the time,” he told The New Yorker.
