A 17-year-old has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a cyclist in Montreal last week.
Police say the teen is facing charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and fleeing from a peace officer.
Police have said the driver who struck an 18-year-old cyclist on Friday was using a stolen car.
Quebec’s police watchdog has said the vehicle was reportedly being chased by an unmarked provincial police patrol car just before the deadly hit and run.
A police spokesperson said the cyclist was crossing an intersection in Montreal’s Ahuntsic neighbourhood when someone driving “at high speed” struck them head-on.
Investigations are underway from Montreal police and the watchdog agency, which probes incidents involving officers.
