Travel Tech Joins Coalition Urging Changes to New York’s One Fair Price Act

14 August 20262 Mins Read

In Brief: Travel Tech has joined a coalition of industry groups urging New York lawmakers to amend the proposed One Fair Price Act, which would prohibit mandatory service fees in hospitality, potentially impacting hotel and restaurant revenue practices and technology platforms that facilitate these charges.

Travel Tech Association (Travel Tech), the unified voice for the travel technology ecosystem, joined a coalition of businesses, trade associations, and industry organizations in urging New York Governor Kathy Hochul to refine the One Fair Price Act (S.8623B/A.9349B) before signing it into law.

In a letter to the governor, the coalition emphasized that it shares the bill’s core goal: preventing the use of consumers’ personal data to charge them higher prices than they would otherwise pay.

The letter urges policymakers to distinguish between harmful “surveillance pricing” and legitimate “dynamic pricing.” Travel Tech supports legislation that addresses harmful conduct without limiting the operational tools that help technology-enabled travel services function effectively.

“Travel Tech supports the goal of protecting consumers from unfair uses of personal data,” said Laura Chadwick, President and CEO of Travel Tech Association. “A clear statewide standard that distinguishes harmful surveillance pricing from necessary dynamic pricing will help protect consumers while preserving innovation and competition.”

The coalition further called for discounts and loyalty programs to be exempted from the bill’s scope altogether and for New York to adopt a single statewide standard rather than a patchwork of local rules.

The coalition letter was signed by Travel Tech alongside organizations and companies, including Tech:NYC, Computer & Communications Industry Association, TechNet, Business Council of New York State, New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, Hotel Association of New York City, Financial Technology Association, and Chamber of Progress.
