WestJet is upgrading its planes with redesigned cabins and new features

19 August 20262 Mins Read

If you’re flying with WestJet soon, your next flight could look a little different, with the airline announcing upgrades to its cabins.

On Aug. 18, 2026, the airline announced that it has finished updating the interiors of its remaining all-economy aircraft that were formerly operated by Swoop or Sunwing Airlines.

The refreshed cabins now include upgraded Premium seating, an expanded Extended Comfort section, updated Economy seating, and several new amenities.

Passengers can expect fast and free WestJet Wi-Fi presented by Telus, updated four-way adjustable headrests, seatback holders for personal phones and tablets, modernized charging ports, and coat hooks.

“Unifying our narrowbody fleet is an important step in delivering the reliable and welcoming experience our guests and WestJetters expect from us,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Group executive vice-president and chief experience officer, in a release.

“This milestone creates a stronger foundation for our teams to focus on delivering exceptional service and a seamless travel experience for our guests.”

WestJet says the changes are part of an effort to create a more consistent experience across its fleet, and that work will continue into next year.

Starting in September, the airline is set to begin refurbishing its legacy narrowbody aircraft to bring them in line with the updated cabins. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with around 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft set to be updated this year.

WestJet has also finished restoring the legroom on its Boeing 737 aircraft that briefly operated with 180 seats. All of the affected aircraft are now operating with 174 seats, along with refreshed interiors and enhanced amenities.

On top of those upgrades, there’s also a visual change coming to the fleet. WestJet says all of its aircraft will feature its teal and navy exterior design by the end of 2026.
