Canada’s highest tram lets you see Jasper from over 2,000 metres up

29 July 20263 Mins Read

The Jasper SkyTram is one of the coolest ways to see the Canadian Rockies without having to spend the entire day climbing a mountain. Located in Jasper National Park, the ride takes visitors up Whistlers Mountain, giving you a front-row seat to some of Alberta’s most impressive scenery.

As Canada’s highest and longest aerial tramway, it climbs more than 2,000 metres above sea level, and the views only get better the higher you go.

What to expect when you ride the Jasper SkyTram

The Jasper Skytram ride takes about seven minutes, but there’s a lot to take in before you even reach the top. As the tram climbs Whistler’s Mountain, the view slowly opens up, with the town of Jasper, surrounding lakes, and endless mountain peaks becoming more visible with every metre.

Once you arrive at the upper station, you can step outside and explore the boardwalk area, snap some photos, or simply take a few minutes to look around. On a clear day, the views from the top can stretch across the surrounding mountain ranges.

And if you’re not ready to head back down right away, you can also make your way along the Summit Trail toward the top of the mountain. The short but steep hike takes you even higher, and the final viewpoint sits just above the upper station.

Planning your Jasper SkyTram visit

If you’re looking to take a ride up the SkyTram, you can visit any time of year since the attractions are open year-round. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of your visit, and booking in advance is recommended, especially during the busy summer months. Visitors should plan to arrive around 20 minutes before their scheduled ride time to make sure they’re prepared for takeoff.

And before heading up to the mountain, be sure to check the weather app and dress accordingly. While it might feel warm down in the town of Jasper, the Rockies can be unpredictable, so packing an extra layer is always a good idea. That way, you can spend your time taking in the views instead of wishing you had brought a jacket.

The Rocky Mountains are already impressive enough from the ground, but seeing them thousands of metres above sea level really gives you a whole new appreciation for just how massive they are. Plus, your thanks will probably thank you for taking the tram instead of walking all the way up.

When: Open seven days a week
Time: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Whistlers Rd., Jasper, Alta.
Cost: Starting at $48 per person
