How to spend the perfect summer day at this beach town 2 hours from Toronto

17 August 20264 Mins Read

There’s a reason Wasaga Beach is one of Ontario’s most iconic summer destinations.

Home to the world’s longest freshwater beach, this Georgian Bay getaway offers much more than a day on the sand. Visitors can look forward to paddling through towering dunes, incredible local restaurants, epic beachfront music festivals, and unforgettable sunsets — all just two hours from Toronto.

If you’re planning a summer escape, here’s how to spend the perfect day in Wasaga Beach.

Start your day at one of Canada’s best beaches

No trip to Wasaga Beach is complete without spending time on its famous shoreline. Stretching an incredible 14 kilometres, this iconic beach is known for its soft sand, crystal-clear shallow water, and panoramic views of the Blue Mountains and Niagara Escarpment.

Whether you’re setting up for a relaxing beach day, taking a refreshing dip, or strolling along the shoreline with an ice cream in hand, it’s easy to lose track of time here.

Paddle through sand dunes

One of the best ways to experience Wasaga Beach is from the water. Rent a kayak or canoe from Free Spirit Tours and paddle along the peaceful Nottawasaga River, where you’ll wind past towering dunes and lush natural landscapes that most visitors never get to see.

Bluwave Board Co. offers paddleboard rentals along with one-on-one and small group lessons right on the beachfront. One of the most scenic routes takes you from the stunning dunes all the way back to Beach Area 1.

If you’re after a big adrenaline rush, book a jet ski with Wasaga Watersports or try wingfoiling with Bluwave for an entirely different perspective of Georgian Bay.

Grab lunch at a local favourite

After a morning outdoors, refuel at one of Wasaga Beach’s fine or casual dining restaurants.

Wasaga Beach is home to an impressive lineup of locally owned restaurants serving flavours from across the globe. From authentic Thai bites to Italian comfort food or Caribbean favourites, there’s something for every appetite.

Local favourites include Catch 22, Sandbar, Barcelos, Curry Bar & Grill, Brightside Deli, Thonburi Thai, Wasaga Pizza, Jerk It Up, and Che Roba! Focaccia Bar.

Or, keep things casual and grab lunch from one of the popular food trucks at Beach Area 1. Choose from favourites like Osmow’s Shawarma, Hola Ice Cream, BeaverTails, Jumbo Juice, or Buns and Tacos before heading back to the sand.

Explore beyond the beach

The beach may be the main attraction, there’s plenty more waiting to be explored. Spend the afternoon exploring hiking and cycling through Wasaga Beach’s extensive trail network, where forests and rivers create some of the area’s most beautiful scenery.

For panoramic views of the Georgian Bay, head to Monument Hill Lookout, or wander through Oxbow Dunes to experience one of Ontario’s largest and most unique freshwater coastal dune ecosystems.

Looking to crank up the excitement? Challenge your friends and family to race at Wasaga 500 Go-Karts, or spend the afternoon at Wasaga Adventure Park, one of Ontario’s premier paintball destinations. The park also offers activities like axe throwing and archery tag, making it a great stop for groups looking to mix things up.

Catch live music by the water

Summer evenings in Wasaga Beach are all about live entertainment.

Every year, Wasaga Beach comes with an incredible lineup of events. The weekly Summer Sets concert series brings live music to the beachfront, creating the perfect soundtrack as the sun begins to set.

After dark, you can stroll along the beautifully illuminated beachfront pathways, which make it easy to continue exploring long after sunset.

On Sept. 3, don’t miss Memories of Summer, an unforgettable evening of music under the stars before a spectacular fireworks finale lights up the night sky.

Celebrate the last long weekend in Wasaga Beach from Sept. 3 to 5, as the award-winning Memories of Summer returns with three unforgettable nights of live music under the stars, followed by a spectacular fireworks finale.

Music lovers can also plan a visit around the Stonebridge Wasaga Beach Blues Festival, while fall visitors can experience the second annual Mayor’s Charity Rodeo and Hootenanny Fall Festival on Oct. 4 and 5.

End the day with an unforgettable sunset

No matter how you spend your day, there’s one thing you absolutely can’t skip. And that’s a Wasaga Beach sunset.

As the sky transforms into shades of pink, orange, and gold, find a spot on the sand, sit back, and watch the sun disappear. It’s the perfect ending to a day spent exploring one of Ontario’s most beloved summer destinations.
