The Edmonton Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (Oct. 13)

13 October 20263 Mins Read

Welcome to Edmonton’s group chat, your weekly roundup of what’s trending, what’s new, and what’s actually worth talking about. Here, we can get the hottest events and news right to your phone and group chat without any issues. If your friends are talking about it, you’re going to find everything you need to know right in this article.

From new candy stores to light art festivals illuminating the downtown core, we’ve got all the details you’ll want on everything new in Edmonton. If you’re ready to start, let’s dive in.

What’s trending, Edmonton?

Dale’s Candy Co. is officially open at Kingsway Mall

For those in need of a sweet treat, Dale’s Candy Co. has opened a location in Edmonton’s Kingsway Mall.

Here, you’ll be able to find a wide variety of candies, refreshing sodas, and local treats. Whether it’s sweet, savoury, spicy, or all three at once, finding your favourite candy in Edmonton has just gotten so much easier.

Skip and Instacart just teamed up

If you regularly order groceries or takeout, here’s something you might want to know!

Skip and Instacart have teamed up, making it a little easier to get your shopping done without jumping between apps.

You can now shop for groceries, beauty products, and everyday essentials through Skip, while Instacart users can order from over 50,000 restaurants across Canada.

And if you’re a Skip+ or Instacart+ member, there are some added savings on delivery fees, too.

The Galactic Atmosphere light art festival is coming to Edmonton this week

This week, from Oct. 16 to 25, Churchill Square is going to be filled with mesmerizing light installations that are bringing art, science, and community together under the night sky.

This space-themed light art festival will only be popping up for a limited time, so you’re definitely going to have to stop by with friends for the photo opportunities of a lifetime. Not to mention, it’s 100 per cent free.

And don’t forget about Edmonton’s upcoming Naturecore Expo

For plant-lovers across Edmonton, Naturecore Expo will be hitting the city this fall, bringing along over 80 vendors to create Edmonton’s biggest botanical shopping experience.

According to its website, Torrin Hammond and Lauren Ponto started these events in 2022 as a space for small plant businesses and plant lovers to connect. Since then, it’s grown into a huge expo featuring not only plant vendors, but flash tattoos, food trucks, and more fun things to explore.

This is one you’re going to want to visit and bring along some friends for the best vibes imaginable.

If you’re wanting a taste of the outdoors, we’ve got the perfect spot

Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary is a protected bird sanctuary in Alberta, acting as one of the most ecologically important spots in the Red Deer River Valley. According to the Waskasoo Environmental Education Society, thousands of songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey visit this sanctuary in Red Deer every year, alongside many other wild animals.

For those who want to explore nature while the weather isn’t completely unbearable yet, this spot is perfect for it.
