Toronto has officially entered the SubwayTakes conversation. The popular New York City interview series has made its debut on the TTC, and its first Toronto episode was all about something very personal to the city: dating.
The episode dropped on Monday and features host/comedian Kareem Rahma talking with Toronto stand-up comedian Thea Rainford about first dates and what someone’s food choices might reveal about their personality.
Rainford’s hot take? You can literally tell everything about a person by what they order on a first date.
For those unfamiliar with SubwayTakes, the series launched in 2023 and follows Rahma as he interviews everyday commuters, content creators and celebrities aboard New York City subway trains. Each guest shares a personal opinion, often controversial or hilarious, while Rahma challenges their reasoning before declaring whether he agrees or disagrees.
The show has become a mega hit, racking up hundreds of millions of views and celebrity guests like Jennifer Lopez, Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron (the show even earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Form Series in 2026!).
The Toronto version follows the same familiar format, but with a few distinctly Toronto touches. Instead of NYC’s MetroCards, the mics are clipped to PRESTO cards, and the familiar red TTC subway seats replace the New York grey-seat subway backdrop.
Rahma announced the Toronto edition last month as part of a new slate of Canadian programming from YouTube. During his visit to the Toronto International Film Festival, Rahma revealed plans to film about 15 episodes on the TTC, featuring a mix of local personalities and celebs.
So, look out for more familiar Canadian faces soon: Rahma has teased episodes featuring Toronto-born comedian Mike Myers and celebrity chef Matty Matheson!
The first Toronto episode is available to watch on SubwayTakes’ Instagram page.
