You can step into a medieval-inspired world at this small-town Alberta festival

29 July 20263 Mins Read

You won’t need a time machine to get a taste of another era this summer, because the Strathmore Medieval Faire is bringing knights, jousting, and old-school entertainment to Alberta. Taking place at the Strathmore Stampede Grounds, the three-day faire will transform the town into a medieval-inspired celebration, complete with armoured knights, live entertainment, costumed characters, and plenty of opportunities to embrace the theme.

Here’s a closer look at the battles, live performances, and activities you’ll find throughout the weekend.

Returning for its fourth year, the Strathmore Medieval Faire has grown into a summer tradition for visitors looking to trade modern-day Alberta for something a little different. Across the grounds, guests can check out medieval-inspired games and challenges, meet costumed characters, watch live performances, and explore the vendors and attractions set up throughout the space.

According to organizers, the biggest highlight of the weekend will be the faire’s first-ever International Jousting Tournament, where armoured knights will go head-to-head on horseback in a full-contact competition.

If watching knights battle it out leaves you feeling hungry, the faire has that covered, too. The Medieval Feast will take place during the evening and give guests the chance to sit down and enjoy a hearty meal.

And if you’re wondering what to wear, this is your chance to have a little fun with your outfit. Guests are encouraged to show up in their best medieval-inspired outfits, with everything from cloaks and gowns to armour, kilts, and more, welcome throughout the weekend.

Those who really want to show off their look can enter the costume contest and see if their outfit has what it takes to earn the best-dressed title!

The Strathmore Medieval Faire will take place from Friday, Aug. 21, to Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, at the Strathmore Stampede Grounds. Tickets are available online ahead of time or at the gate, but keep in mind that gate prices are slightly higher, so it’s worth grabbing yours early if you want to save a few dollars.

At this point, the only thing missing from the Strathmore Medieval Faire might be an actual castle. The rest of the checklist is pretty much covered, from knights and battles to feasts, costumes and a crowd that’s fully committed to the theme.

When: Friday, Aug. 21 to Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026
Time: Friday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 33 Wheatland Tr. Strathmore, Alta.
Cost: Starting at $10
